Swirl of Life
Dominique Thomas is a ceramic artist whose atelier, based in the heart of the Montagne Noire and surrounded by nature, is a source of inspiration for her work that follows the rhythm of seasons.
She started with the study of cinematography but everything seemed to bring her back to her first love: ceramics. Augusto Tozzola, an Italian ceramist living in Paris, took her as an apprentice and taught her all she had to know about the craft. She also benefited from working with Helena Klug, Brazilian, who introduced her about the technique of high temperature enamels on stoneware and porcelain. The extensive knowledge she gained from the people she met along the way lead her to create her own ceramics and exhibit her work at the ArtCeram Terres d’Empreintes biennial in Sèvres.
Besides, Dominique Thomas shares her passion for the art of ceramics with students from preschool to middle school and has also conducted workshops in Paris and at the Lavoir in Clamart (an exhibition and training center).
Dominique Thomas took part in the Made in Town / Montagne Noire exhibition, which was held from October 21, 2015 to February 13, 2016 at Made in Town in Paris.
Made in Fontenay-aux-Roses. Both a freelance writer and a press agent, she writes about fashion and people behind it: designers, craftsmen and industrialists. She is a regular contributor on Maison d’Exceptions and Made in France Première Vision online magazines, among others. She is graduated from the Institut de Management et de Communication Interculturels, formerly Institut Supérieur d’Interprétation et de Traduction and from the Institut Français de la Mode.
Specialized in professional clothing, La Manufacture Regain created in 2003 the brand Pic de Nore, which was named after the highest point of the Montagne Noire.
Made in Town interrupts the daily grind, taking a voyage south to the Midi-Pyrenees region of France, in pursuit of local savoir-faire and products, desiring (as always) to strengthen the bond between the public and producers. The exhibition Made in Town / Montagne Noire parks its suitcases first at the Castres Economic Fair.
In order to promote the know-how and characteristics of the tapestry from Aubusson, the county town of the French region of Creuse, Made in Town conducted a series of three documentary videos at the request of the International City of the Tapestry and Woven art, in partnership with l’Institut français de la mode and with the support of the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès.
