La Rochère glass factory, The Magic of Glass, short video documentary produced by Made in Town

In order to promote the know-how and the characteristics of La Rochère glass factory, located in Passavant-la-Rochère in the French department of Haute-Saône, Made in Town conducted a series of four short videos shot in the heart of the company's workshops.

The story is based on the testimonies of Cecile Giraud, director of La Rochère glass factory; Guy Roussey glassblower and foreman; Jean-Michel Gédélé, glassblower; Marie-Ange Maillet, in charge of decorations; Luis Ferreira, glass engraver; and Denis Lutz, glass paste preparer.

The first part attempts to describe the history of La Rochère – the oldest French glass factory, founded in 1475 – and the main activities performed by the company today: the blown glass craftsmen and the mechanical production for both tableware and architecture. The other three videos describe three specific techniques used in the workshops of La Rochère: blown glass, multilayer glass and engraved glass.

This series of videos produced by Made in Town is presented in the new staging of the Museum of Glass adjacent to the workshops of the La Rochère company and complete another set of six video portraits made with six designers who have recently collaborated with La Rochère.

The tradition of Parisian haute couture relies on the expertise and impeccable work of nimble hands. Their dexterity is acquired over time by the endless repetition of the same gestures. With experience, each new hand-sewn point becomes identical to the previous one – this is the measure of quality and exception.
